Well Done Chloe & Leanne

This week  two of our Gaynor Cup squad players from last year have been selected in the FAI Schools International squad, Chloe McNamee (ex-Oldcastle United and Trim Celtic) and Leanne Kiernan (ex-Bailieboro Celtic and Kingscourt Harps).  This is a fantastic achievement for both girls who are now currently playing with Shelbourne.

Both Leanne and Chloe excelled in last years Gaynor Cup where the NECSL secured the Gaynor Plate.  Leanne scored one of the best individual goals of the tournament against Mayo in the group stages where she picked the ball up in her own half and weaved in and out the Mayo defence to slot home the winning goal and Chloe scored the winning goal against Wexford in final with a superb 30 yard strike.

The girls will have their first outing with their new squad on Sunday when the team take on Northern Ireland’s U16 in a friendly.   Kick off is at 2pm this Sunday in the AUL complex.

The girls  will also have another competitive friendly against England in Maidstone United FC on Saturday, March 8 ahead of the Bob Docherty Cup which will take place in Repton School, Derbyshire from April 14 to 17.

It is such a brilliant achievement for both girls and so very well deserved.  Everyone here in the NECSL is delighted to see you go from strength to strength.  We would like to wish you both the best of luck and we are sure you will both do brilliantly.
