NECSL U12s Vs Carlow February 16th Kingscourt
The NECSL U12 ETP squad took on Carlow in an inter-league match on what turned out to be a very nice, mild Sunday afternoon. The NECSL side were on form on the day, managing to put five past the unlucky Carlow keeper, and while keeping a clean sheet in the process. After slow starts in their previous games, the squad were asked to begin they game brightly, and they did just that, demonstrating excellent passing and movement in the opening minutes. Early in the game, a free kick was won about 30 yards from goal. Navan Town’s Jake Murtagh stepped up to belt the free kick straight into the top right hand corner, leaving the keeper with no chance and giving the home side a great start. The NECSL continued to exert pressure, and added to their tally before the break. First up was OMP’s Kyle Cosgrove who struck the ball well to give a 2-0 lead, and then Parkvilla’s Mattsie Mongan scored from close range after a sustained period of pressure.
The NECSL continued to dominate the game in the second half, but struggled to convert their possession into goals. The Carlow goalkeeper was in great form, making two great saves. Eventually the lead was extended to 4-0, with Parkvilla’s Ben Gibney smashing in a shot from 25 yards out. Trim Celtic’s Sean Foley then polished off one of his trade mark dribbles into the box with a cool finish past the onrushing goalkeeper.
A great win for the squad, on a day when Kingscourt’s Jamie Fagan captained the team on his home ground.
