Welcome Back Coaching Leagues

This weekend sees the return of the Coaching Leagues in St. Pats and the MDL in Navan. Prior to the games please find below the rules on conduct from all.  It is important to remember these are young children learning about a sport they love so they must be encouraged in a positive manner.  No Scores are kept or league tables so this is all about fun , enjoyment and learning

NECSL Coaching Leagues

Short Season 2016 & Calendar Season 2017

General conduct on match day

In MDL for all age groups 1 coach per team allowed behind side-line and 2nd coach outside fence for substitutes and oversees parents/supporters.

In St. Pat’s School for Age Group 11 Boys coaches and substitutes are allowed on pitch area and parents/supporters remain outside fence.

Team coaches should rotate players to experience different positions on pitch.

Players must have freedom to express themselves and once game begins the coach should just let them play and not “direct” the play.

At start and end of every game team coaches and players will line up and shake hands with each other.

Give the children freedom to have fun and enjoy playing soccer.

Let the kids make their own decisions on the field, and encourage them to communicate with each other. Let the kids decide who will take the free kick, kick in, penalty etc.

Let the players have the chance to make their own split-second decisions on the pitch and learn by them whether the decision was successful or not.

No Shouting Instructions.

No Shouting at the Facilitator/Referee.

No Shouting at the opposition.

Positive encouragement only from side lines for both sets of players.

NO SMOKING allowed in the environs of the pitch while games are on.

Coaches/Parents working positively together

Do not instil “a win at all costs” attitude in the players. This is non-competitive football not the Champions league.

Be positive or be quiet, negative comments are counter-productive.

Encourage participation and fun.

Promote the development of skills.

A positive and encouraging environment will give the child

  • A sense of personal achievement
  • An enjoyment of football
  • Improved physical fitness
  • Higher self-esteem
  • A greater level of skill
  • Improved social skills
  • Confidence in making new friends

It is important to

  • Encourage but not force children to be active
  • Know when the child is ready to play
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle habits
  • Attend training and games where possible
  • Promote and teach FAIR PLAY
  • Teach your child to treat referees, other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, colour, gender or ability.
